When the British linguist Firth studied the status of linguistics in1935, he had consideredthat although linguists and psychologists have not started to study session, but the humanbeing can find a better understanding of what language is and how it works through it. So wecan see the importance and trend to study the conversation.Conversation is essential to the human society. So it plays an irreplaceable role both in theknowledge contest or competition of talent show. As the complex form of the knowledgecontest and competition of talent show, I call it Contestshow. In the trials of “Defense Elite”the different participants want to meet different purposes. Which one made them to useparticular conversational strategies. In this thesis I would like to do deep research and analysisfor the above all from the perspective of Pragmatics.First of all, this thesis studies the conversation structure of the trials of “Defense Elite”. Itmainly reveals the characteristics of the beginning part and the ending part from theglobal structure. And I also reveal the diversity and the inequality of the turn-taking model, the feedback, the adjacency pairs, the overlap, the interruption and the repair process.Secondly, this thesis makes a dynamical study for the role of the conversation. In thisthesis there are two kinds of conversational roles_one is the producers of talk, the other is thereceivers of talk. And they can switch between each other. This thesis found out the purposeof the role switch is to meet the demand of the conversation in the specific languageenvironment. Finally, this thesis has made analysis to the strategy of question and answer in theContestshow. I want to find out the different purposes of the conversational strategies duringthe conversational roles.
