Contrastive Study Of Character Image In Chinese And Japanese Animated Cartoon

The animated cartoon as one kind of unique artistic forms reflects the difference of China and Japan culture, no matter in the aspects of its animated character image design and the overall process making. Within the similar cultural system between China and Japan, China and Japan have never given up their individuality pursue in the animation image design and gradually have been forming their own style and the modeling style.Animated character image is a character image designed particularly for an animated cartoon work and is the distinctive character image or anthropomorphic image created for all visual media. Character image design is the key role of a work whether in an animated cartoon or other forms of animation. The success of an animated cartoon lies to a large extent in the character design. It can be said that the successful animation image can attract the audience in a relatively short time. If the character image comes to your mind when you think of the cartoon, then the character image has a representative role in this cartoon. The designs of characters in animation works often absorb the characteristics of their own culture or ethnic customs, and integrate with these elements to artistic reproduction to become new images. This study comes from the connotation of animation image design to the function of the animation character image design as well as the design process, analyzing the reasons of the formation of Chinese and Japanese animation character image design styles through the cultural difference in both countries’animation character image design background. It takes the development history of the animation character image design in both countries as framework to carry on a comparative study of character image in Chinese and Japanese animated cartoon. Through the diversity study of the Chinese and Japanese animation character image, the differences between Chinese and Japanese animation character image design will be discovered. What we can learn from the Japanese cartoons will also be found. With the comparative method, the Chinese and Japanese animation character image will be discussed from the diversity perspective, expecting to make attempts of reference value for the future development of Chinese animated cartoons.
