Gao Panlong was a famous Neo-Confucianism and statesman in the late Ming Dynasty.He takes a lofty place in the history of late Ming Dynasty. Previous studies have focusedprimarily on his Neo-Confucianism thoughts or Political activities and have rushed manyresearch works about it.Also,443of Gao Panlong’s poems have been handed down fromancient times. General Catalogue Summary of Complete Library in the Four Branches ofLiterature set a high value on him that “he had the noblest personality since the founding ofthe Ming dynasty and was not unworthy of ancient people” and on his poems that “his poemsare prosaic and lucid without the grotesque style of late Ming Dynasty”.At present, the studyon Gao Panlong’s poems is comparatively weak or not systematic. The article makes anintensive study of that to find out his Neo-Confucianism thoughts in his poems, show theartistic feature and style of his poems and aims to give his poems an objectivity roleorientation they should gain in the literary history.Introduction describes the current studies on Gao Panlong and the explanation to thisresearch goal and the significance. Chapter one introduces his experience, ways of life andmain writings to show his understanding of human beings and comments on human affairs.By studying his life-time to analyse the influence from his life. Chapter two takes the big fourthemes of the poetry as the research key—Philosophical poetry、Homebound poetry、Linetour poetry、Exchanges poetry.Combine his Neo-Confucianism thoughts to deepen theanalysis of the clear-out artistic characteristics of his poems. Chapter three discusses about theartistic value and limitations of his poems under the background of late Ming Dynasty literaryhistory and finally defines his poems a reasonable position in the literary history.
