Based on narrative theory, this thesis attempts to analyze the reframing in news translation. Differentfrom the previous studies on news translation, the present study is taken from narrative perspective. Sincenarrative theory acknowledges the negotiable positioning of the translators in the news events andrecognizes the power of social structures but does not preclude the active resistance on a personal or grouplevel, the research taken from this perspective can manifest the way in which the translation mediates theircirculation in the news reports sufficiently. The analysis is undertaken on the news reports selected from2013Reference News and theircorresponding source reports. Reference News, as the newspaper run by Xinhua News agency, owns itsspecific features. Synthesizing its character and the themes of translated reports, this thesis analyzes thetranslation practice of2013news reports in Reference News. Through the relatively comprehensive analysis, the reframing phenomenon including reframing strategies employed by the translator and the factorscausing the reframing behavior is revealed. The concluding remarks indicates that the reframing strategies raised by translation theorist MonaBaker, namely, selective appropriation of textual material, framing by labeling and repositioning ofparticipants are widely adopted by the translator in Reference News. Besides, the translator also employsthe strategy of integration of source material, type-resetting and diction replacement to reframe thenarrative. Differences in ideology, culture frame and transformation between different typology ofnarratives are the main factors resulting in the reframing behavior.
