This is a translation report on the excerpts from the first to the sixth chapters of Planning for EconomicZones in Central Plains (2012-2020). The whole planning consists of12chapters, translated by twotranslators. And this report is based on the first chapters, more than14,000words.Planning for Economic Zones in Central Plains (2012-2020) is the national strategic documentofficially approved by the State Council in December2012. It is the schedule on the development ofEconomic Zones in Central Plains in economy, society, technology, culture, education, environment,medicine, tourism and other categories in the period from2012to2020. It is the representative officialdocument by the central government. The first six chapters introduces the foundations for development,general requirements, space layout, as well as the tasks of new-type agricultural modernization,industrialization and urbanization, which is helpful for the readers to learn about the political methods anddevelopment of Economic Zones in Central Plains.The paper is guided by the translation theory, namely, translation-oriented text analysis model byChristiane Nord, which includes the extratextual factors, the intratextual factors and the functional hierarchyof translation problems. With the guidance of the text analysis model, translation strategies such asinstrumental translation and documentary translation are used to solve the difficulties in the translationprocess. For example, the translator uses adding notional words to translate the shorten forms and acronyms,and use omission to deal with the words describing the level or degree. Other translation methods, such asannotated translation is used to translate words with Chinese characteristics. In addition, the methods ofhow to choose the subjects of the sentences and how to translate both long sentences and four-wordstructures from the original text are also discussed in this paper.
