| Chritiane Nord suggested four types of text functions:referential, appellative, expressive and phatic function. Translation and Conflict possesses both referential and appellative functions and its main purpose is to inform the readers about the critical role of translation in the contemporary political conflicts. Thus, this thesis adopts Christiane Nord’s translation-oriented text analysis model as theoretical guideline, introduces origins, necessities and research status translation-oriented text analysis model in the first place, then, after source text analysis of extratextual and intratextual factors, this thesis classifies translation problems in the English-Chinese translation of this book. To fulfill translation task and to achieve intended translation purpose, this thesis proposes translation approaches such as amplification, deletion, transformation of parts of speech and literal translation. This thesis concludes with finding that the translation-oriented text analysis model of Nord’s can effectively guide E-C translation of academic works. While adopting flexible translation approaches, translators should take into consideration target readers’ acceptance level and translation effect. |
