Research On The Conjunction "Biekan"

This paper selects the Modern Chinese conjunction "Biekan" as the subject of the study. In this paper, we particularly studied "Biekan" from the aspects of diachrony and synchronity, and especially studied the aspects of sentence framework, textual and pragmatic functions. This paper is constructed with seven parts, and the body part is made up of five parts, excepted with the preface and conclusion.The first part is the preface. In this part, we stated the subject of this study, and summarized the related works by the formers. Otherwise, we stated the study idea and methods that adopted in this paper, and we made a declaration for the source of the corpus.The second part analyzes the compound sentences of "Biekan". With data statistics, we generalized the typical sentence "Biekan A, B", and made descriptions and analyses on its component. Finally, we made a study on the connective words that frequently copresence with "Biekan".In the third part, we analysed the pragmatic and textual functions of "Biekan". We found that "Biekan" had pragmatic functions on passing messages, marking counter-expectation, and highlighting the focus; and it had textual functions on connecting and persuading, and dialogue creating function.The fourth part describes and analyzes the grammaticalization of "Biekan". In this part, we studied the forbidden word "Bie" and the verb "Kan", and respectively analyzed the word "Biekan" as a verb phrase and a conjunction. At last we studied the grammatical causes and mechanisms of "Biekan".The fifth part studies the subjectivity and inter-subjectivity of "Biekan". We investigated the subjectivity of "Biekan" from the speakers’emotion, perspective and cognition, and tried to conclude the causes of subjectivity. In the second part, we also studied the inter-subjectivity of "Biekan".The sixth part compares the conjunction "Biekan" with "Suiran" in the aspects of grammaticalization and pragmatics. This part studies the primary causes of the differences of grammaticalization between the two words, and made a comparison between the two words on their usage.The last part of the paper is the conclusion, which summarizes the main content of the paper, and indicates the deficiency of the paper.
