The Study Of Bronze Sacriifcial Utensils In The Zeng State

For nearly half a century, large quantities of tombs of the Western and Eastern Zhouperiods were explored in the norther Hubei Province, among which, there were numeroustombs in Zeng area. Large number of bronze sacrificial utensils was unearthed in the Zeng’stombs. These historical relics have attracted wildly attention in archaeological circle,providing a wealth of physical information for us to research the history of Zeng area. We havealready gained certern achievements in this realm. Discussions on Zeng area while mainlyfocusing on those bronze sacrificial utensils of the Eastern Zhou period for the fieldarchaeological data were limited. Between2011and2013, archaeological discoveries on Zengarea’s tombs and its bronze culture sbtained extraordinary achievements, especially theexploring of Zeng area tombs in Yejiashan in Suizhou City. More than500bronze wares wereunearthed while made up information of the early Western Zhou period’s bronze sacrificialutensils of Zeng area, and provided clues for historians to research Zeng area’s history in theperiod. Meanwhile, those Zeng tombs in the early Chunqiiu period and middle Warring-Statesperiod discovered in Wenfeng in Suizhou City have enriched the resource of Zeng’s history inthe Eastern Zhou period.This paper aims to clarify all the published datas of bronze sacrificial utensils of Zeng area.With discussing the form, the developing process, and the emblazonry’s characteristics ofmain bronze sacrificial utensils of the Westren and Eastern Zhou period in Zeng area, thepaper reveals the cause of these developments. Meanwhile it tries to supplement the physicalmaterials discovered in Yejiashan and Wenfeng pagoda in Suizhou City and the2ed tomb ofSujialong of Jing mountant after2011, compete the diachronic developing of Zeng eare’sbronze sacrificial utensils. And based on the historical origin of Zeng area in early WesternZhou period, and the paper explains the culture characteristics of the Western and EasternZhou period as well.
