The Research About The Relationship Between Cognitive Style And Syllogism Reasoning

Many scholars have paid more attention on the connection of personality andcognitive.They have studied the cognitive style and memory or emotion and so on.However, the relationship between cognitive style and syllogistic reasoning, there arefew finding that can find in the Chinese research. The author reviewed the literature inthe West and east and discovers the problem, and wanted to find the relationshipbetween syllogistic reasoning and different cognitive style.Syllogistic reasoning isconsist of two containments that have common phrase item and obtain a conclusionlogically by them, which is a main part of deductive reasoning. Conclusion estimateparadigm is one of the main research methods in syllogism reasoning, which demandssubjects to judge whether the given conclusion can obtains from the given premises.Cognitive style is an important methods in Psychology of people. After readingresearch about these subject, the author uses the conclusion estimate paradigm, thisresearch probed the cognitive style, the different test of syllogism reasoning and logicstyle on the syllogistic reasoning of college students through experiment.192subjectsthe author selected were the college students, which did not study logic. The researchadopted a3×2×2three-factor mixed experimental design, in which between-subjectindependent variable includes: cognitive style: dependent style, independent style andneutral style; within-subject the different test of syllogism reasoning(abstract sign,specific content),logic state(valid,invalid);the dependent variables was the participatorsyllogistic reasoning scores in the test.The results reveal that:(1)cognitive style had an significant effect on syllogismreasoning.(2)cognitive style had an significant effect on syllogism reasoning. In thetest of abstract sigh, the independent group performed the best in reasoning, and theneutral group followed, the dependent group the last. In the test of specific content,the group has less influence by cognitive style.(3)people lean toward for confirmexamination in logic state.(4)we can infer if we want to narrow the gap between threegroups we should pay attention to dependent group and train their logic skill.
