In the1990s, the development of documentaries peaked in China. This era also witnessed the advent and mushrooming of micro documentaries. In2010, with China’s State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) publishing and issuing the Advices on Accelerating the Advancement of Documentary, there has been an enormous change in documentary landscape. Along with this, micro documentary has been thriving and making breakthroughs. Traditional categories, such as life, culture, geography, news, are replaced by novel types exemplified by classic editing, public welfare, environmental protection, commercial customization, behind-the-scenes shots and students-themed record. In addition, due to the unfolding of IT, audiences prefer their programs spiced up with diversity. In order to cater to their challenging demands, new-fangled topics and diverse methods of expression have popped out. After documentaries have become columns, another method-going with the story line is gradually adopted. As an inevitable part of documentary, this method adds a touch of color. Going with the story line is an important method of expression:it not only makes audiences reflect on the documentary but also gets to viewers more easily. How to make a good use of going with the story line has become a new standard for a successful documentary. Based on the author’s graduate work-Low Carbon, Happy riding, this dissertation analyzes micro documentary’s production and development.
