For decades, the development of Internet technology and pervasiveness of mobile phone has brought China to a new media era.The constant improvement of media leads to a profound influence on the society, culture, life and media environment. In No Sense of Place,Joshua Meyrowitz put forward Media Sense Theory, which indicated that the emergence of new media inevitably contributes to the transformation of its media environment and communication sense, which leads to a direct impact on social behavior.Compared with mass media, new media micro-documentary became the product of the new media and traditional documentaries. The Great Shokunin is one of the greatest examples of this new documentary form.It gained a solid reputation and continuously updated record hits since the broadcast of the first and second season, and successively won several documentary awards in China. This case study takes The Great Shokunin as an example to investigate the new media micro-documentary.It analyzes the production process and the content of the program in the first two seasons.Combining with the author's internship experience with the production team, and the informal interviews with program writers and related producers to its analysis process, the paper explores the impact of the Internet on the production and content of new media micro-documentaries.The research shows that compared with traditional documentaries, the new media influences the micro-documentaries on preparatory preparation, program production, and new media operation in varying degrees. Moreover, the study also finds that the influence of the new media on micro-documentaries mainly focuses on micro-narrative,simplification theme, visual presentation and diversified forms of innovation.Since documentaries entered the market, documentary industrialization has become a problem to be solved.Based on a production idea of productizing thinking,The Great Shokunin formed a complete series of new media micro-documentary production and achieved a certain degree of success. The research on the content features of new media micro-documentaries can help other micro-documentary creators better understand the impact of the new media on the content level, and hence improving the ability to control works.Theoretically, the success of The Great Shokunin can be duplicated. However, the production team will still face various challenges in practical production.
