Case Study On Local Culture Construction In Rural Communities

Abstract:As an important dimension of new rural construction, local culture construction in rural communities shows its irreplaceable importance because it helps to satisfy farmers’multi-layered demands and to promote rural society’s harmonious development. Taking Xitang Town for example, the author probes into issues in local culture construction of rural community contemporarily, then puts forward strategies to structure local community culture on these grounds.First of all, the author discusses the concepts, research scope and methodology of this paper, clarifies the notions of community, rural community, community culture and localized culture, and conducts a literature review.Second, the author analyzes the situation of local culture construction in rural communities in Xitang Town, especially its infrastructures, backgrounds and resources such as geographic features, culture resource and tourism feature. According to relevant literature, the Paper summarizes the useful experience of local community culture construction and finds out that Xitang Town is in the leading position on scale, coverage and investment in local culture construction all over the Country. However, a few problems are to be solved. Firstly, rural communities are unbalanced on infrastructures development and under-utilization. Secondly, inadequate marketization of local community culture leads to financing difficulty and puzzled management. Lastly, the continuously loosening of interpersonal ties inside of rural communities dissolves common community values, which, in return, weakens the foundation of culture construction in rural communities.Finally, the author puts forward new strategies for the local government to build rural community. That is, firstly, the government should improve the efficiency of resource utilization and improve the management of local culture. Secondly, the government could innovate constructive mechanisms to explore approaches to develop local culture of rural communities. Thirdly, activating subjective consciousness of communities to enhance capability of culture which serves the communities. Fourthly, it is important that we should respect the principle position of peasant in the community culture construction. In a word, taking various kinds of local factors into comprehensive consideration is the significant guarantee of rural community culture construction.
