Self-produced drama was well-known when there was the cutthroat competition in Chinese TV market, after six years, self-produced drama has been a new "weapon" for Satellite TV station to own TV copyrights、strive for audience share and win huge advertising profits. But as its model of production and broadcast is not enough mature, a series of problems appeared on the road of development. This paper tries to research on the theory of Media Ecology and makes the use of media niche and media ecological system to discuss and analyze Chinese self-produced drama on the purpose of providing some strategies for future ecological development of self-produced drama.This paper has finished the research on self-produced drama on the view of the media ecology through theoretical construction、phenomenon analysis and close reading. First, this paper has made brief elaboration of the concept of media ecology、 self-produced drama and、media ecological system and media niche, analyzed the media ecological environment of our self-produced drama from political ecology、 economical ecology、cultural ecology and institutional ecology; second, the causes of our self-produced drama and its media niche have been comprehensively described; finally, this paper analyzed the positive impact and negative impact of self-produced drama in Chinese drama ecology, and analyzed ecological crisis caused by self-produced drama. On this base, for playing a reference role to theoretical research and production practice of self-produced drama in the future, this paper put forward some counter measures and feasible suggestions.This paper argued that, under the circumstance of Chinese TV series industrialization, in order to win in the intense TV series market with quality, self-produced drama must fully draw lessons from overseas mature model of production and marketing, enhance the consciousness of forward-looking, improve the quality of product, propagate the social theme, and fully follow the competition mechanism, respect for the audience’s demand.
