Lee Duk-Moo was a famous scholar, educationist and a philosophical realist with real ability and learning of moral practice in the Joseon Dynasty. Although he was a bastard, but he did not depressed. He read a lot of books, especially books related bibliographical study. Like other northern school scholars Lee Duk-Moo not only reading books, the experience of the Qing Dynasty envoy also leaves a deep impression on him. He actively advocated social reforms, particularly achieved fruitful results in education.Academic study of Lee Duk-Moo’s thoughts are more concentrated in the field of literature, the research of his education thoughts is weak. Most pieces of research studies simply to [SaSoJeol] as the text, from the social and historical background, lack of breadth and depth, which can not fully grasp the fundamental characteristics of Lee Duk-Moo’s Confucian education thoughts, it is necessary to conduct a more in-depth study.The paper aims to study Lee Duk-Moo’s education thoughts from the side of social background, ideological knowledge, and the links and differences between Neo Confucianism. The paper consists of five parts. The preface includes the reason of selecting this subject, the present researches and the main objects of the thesis. The second part mainly discusses the social background and thought origin of Lee Duk-Moo’s thoughts. The third part elaborates and appraises Lee Duk-Moo’s educational contents. The forth part elaborates Lee Duk-Moo’s education thoughts of Confucianism from the recognition of Junzi, the recognition of courtesy and humanistic ideas. The fifth part is the summary of the paper, which affirmed Lee Duk-Moo’s historical contribution in the history of Chosun’s Confucian education thoughts and summarizes its modern sense.The study on Lee Duk-Moo’s confucian education thoughts not only deepen the ideological changes of the late Chosun Dynasty education thoughts, also helps to explore its positive factors, has a certain reference value for the development of China’s educational undertakings.
