Language Expression And Research On Traffic Activities

According to C.J. Fillmore’s "Scene" model and different roles in the perspective region, traffic activities can be classified into four categories:traffic passenger activities, traffic operating activities, traffic motion activities and transportation activities. The principal subjects of this thesis include:How language expressed these four types of traffic activity? What kinds of motivations are employed for the expressions? What is the relation among these different motivations and why? How these expressions overlapped? Statistical and comparative study, overall and multidimensional study are employed in the research, I have tried my best to explore the inside expression mechanism of language and to present how language express traffic activities.Language described traffic passenger activities by means of four motivations:body posture, spatial contact, up and down displacement and involved expression of transportation activities."坐"gain the advantage in body posture expression, and "上|下|乘" are prevailing in up and down displacement expression. Motivations of traffic operating expression include body transitive activities, starting/settling activities, causative activities, contacting activities and involved expression(for instance“我坐他开的车”,and“踩单车|划船”,“开车|驾车”,“卓を运転する(开车)”,“掌船”are typical examples of the other former four motivations. Motivations of traffic motion expression include horizontal displacement activities“运行|飞驰”，initiating/processing activities“起航|着陆|穿越”,starting activities“开(着)”and involved expression of operating“他在开车”.The other examples,“车在走”“飞机飞行”are the schema structure imitation of“行走”“飞行”.Motivation based on horizontal displacement expression belongs to metaphor cognitive model based on resemblance, and it is the schema structure imitation of " source-path-goal". Motivations of traffic transportation expression include body transitive activities "拉", initiating activities“起运”，horizontal displacement activities and mixed causative connotation“运输|空运”,and they use both metonymy and metaphor for expressing.Traffic activity is an integrated unit which compose all four types of activities which were mentioned above. Different activities which closely related with each other are overlapped in expression, and their motivation resemblance can be matched to be pairs. The reasons of differences between motivations can be analyzed from the characters and the distinctions of various traffic activities. There are both competitiveness and compatibleness in language expressions, people can find a best expression for a particular activity in spite of the existence of varied expression pattern or the different observational perspective from different individuals. The language of traffic activities expression are closely related to human cognition and stereotypical relation, and has its own systematic, richness, motivation.
