This paper aims to explore the relations among academic motivation, basic mental needs and academic performance, especially the underlying psychological mechanism. Method:Using two questionnaire, Academic Self-Regulation Questionnaire and basic psychological need scale, to measure550juniors middle school pupils in two different time points, and at the sometime, pupils grades in Chinese., math and English are recorded, and uses cross lag technique to process the data. Results:1) grade significantly influence the learning motivation of students, but the gender effect was not significant; there are significant differences between the types; basic psychological needs of students is influenced significantly by gender and grade grade grade; there is significant effect, but there is no significant gender effect on it;3) was significantly related to the basic psychological needs and learning motivation of the students, but the learning achievement and learning motivation has no significant correlation;4) learning motivation and learning needs of students is stable in time, and in the cross time, both can be predicted; learning achievement and learning motivation has no significant correlation, and prediction of each other in the two cannot be. Conclusion:the students’learning motivation and basic psychological needs are significantly correlated with academic achievement, but between the two are not mutually predicted..
