True self is present in the individual qualities within, it is unabashedly and modified. Some scholars think that true-self is closely contact with the meaning of life, and the moreunderstanding of true-self, the more sensing of life. True self is an important factor impact on psychological well-being, and the more understanding of the true self, the individual can get more benefits.This paper investigated the middle school students’ real self-expression under the environment of family and school, and introduced the personality variables. The focus of this paper is as follows: the relationship between the different situation of real self-expression and middle school students’ mental health, the relationship between the different situation of real self-expression and middle school students’ academic performance. This research adopts literature and investigation method. The research tools include inner self-expression, the big five personality profiling and MHT(mental health diagnostic test. Through the questionnaire star system online, I invested 792 students. After removing some invalid questionnaire, It’s remaining 688 questionnaires, including 446 girls and 242 boys. I also statistics three grades into this study. And then I analysis all dates by SPSS software.The main conclusions are as follows:1.The middle school students’ self-expression in the family and in the schoolis significantly different; the family’s self-expression is significantly higher than the school’s self-expression.2.The family real self-expression has significant gender differences; the girl is significantly higher than boys. But there is no significant gender difference on school real self-expression.3.The big five personality dimensions are significantly related to true self-expression of family; And in addition to the open, the rest was significantly associated with the real self-expression in school.4. The family real self-expression has remarkable effect on middle school students’ mental health and each dimension. The school real self-expression has remarkable effect on learning anxiety, anxiety to people, self-accusation tendency, physical symptoms, allergic tendencies, impulse and the total score. And the school’s self-expression has a greater impact on mental health dimensions and total score.5.There is significant relationship between the academic performanceand family real self-expression. However,there is no significant relationship between the academic performance and the school real self-expression.
