With the rapid development of information technology, new media has beenbringing about great change in various industries. As an important form of newmedia, college English autonomous learning platform conforms to the requirementof college English teaching reform launched by the Ministry of Education. Itsindividual autonomous learning mode provides a good learning condition forstudents’ language acquisition.Based on Krashen’s comprehensible input theory and a sample of collegeEnglish autonomous learning platform of Shanghai Normal University, this thesisdiscusses the application of new media in current college English listening teachingand puts forward some specific suggestions for the construction of real man-machineinteractive college English listening teaching mode. The study adopts the methods of questionnaire, interview and experimentalstudy. Firstly, using a33-item questionnaire, the author conducted a survey aboutthe current English listening teaching among127non-English major students, andthen SPSS was used to analyze the data in order to find the problems that existed inlistening class. Based on the results, the author designed a web-based college Englishlistening teaching mode. In the second semester of the academic year2012-2013,the author used2012-grade students in Class One and Class Two of EducationalCollege as experimental class and control class. In the experimental class, the authorconsciously applied the Internet autonomous learning platform to listening teaching, while in the control class the author didn’t use the platform. In the beginning and atthe end of the semester, the author conducted two tests on students’ Englishlistening level in the two classes. All the data were analyzed through SPSS. Based onthe results, the study came out with the following conclusion:1.In general, the subsequent score is higher than the former score in both theexperimental class and the control class. But the post-test score of the experimentalclass shows an obvious increase. There are significant differences in the subsequentscore between the experimental class and the control class. 2.From the perspective of students’ interaction and online time, their listeninglevel has a significantly positive correlation with the number of the posts, but it has aweak positive relevance with their online time.3.Through an in-depth interview, the study finds out that most students are ableto choose appropriate training modules to elevate their listening level. Only a smallgroup of students still cannot effectively use the Internet English autonomouslearning platform.Based on the above conclusion, the author puts forward the followingsuggestions:1.In listening teaching, teachers should be fully aware of the students’ listeninglevel and guide them to enter the proper learning zones.2.Teachers should pass on some techniques about how to operate the Internetautonomous learning platform and instruct students to strike a balance betweenonline learning time and playtime to improve their autonomous learning ability.
