This translation report focuses on analyzing problems encountered in the translation of two chapters of Adult Development in an attempt to discuss how to make the translation proper and readable.Adult Development, from which Chapter5and Chapter6are taken as the source text for my assignment, is written by Susan Krauss Whitbourne, an American psychology professor. The content of this book ranges from physiology, psychology, cognition, memory, personality, family relationship and work, full of professional terms and authoritative chart. As an academic work, this book contains many terminologies, long sentences and passive voices, which makes it difficult to achieve the readability of translation.Consequently, semantic extension, the change of English long sentences into Chinese short ones and the conversion of English passive voice into Chinese active voice have turned out to be effective means of achieving the readability of translation.
