| Nowadays, our society has entered into an era of information explosion. And news, as one of the important ways to spread information and culture, plays an increasingly important role in our communication. At present, the news has become an essential part of everyday life. News, which has always been loved by the general public, has become an important way of international information consultation and exchange. It plays a pivotal role in the culture and information dissemination. English news translation plays an important role in the exchange of the western and Chinese culture, thus, the study of English news translation is of great significance. As a branch of stylistic translation, news translation has invoked wide-spread attention in the translation industry and the field of linguistics.This paper uses a discourse analysis theory of coherence and cohesion as a starting point to explore the E-C news translation. Cohesion and coherence are two important terms and important chapter in linguistics discourse features, but cohesion and coherence are not used in isolation, they are closely related to other aspects of the discourse. They are cooperative and restraint, and they play a communicative function together. The cohesion chain of source language connects the entire structure like the reinforcing steel bar of a building, thus its importance is undoubtable. But this does not mean that the translation must be rigidly cohesive copy of the original. The translator should fully understand the differences and similarities of the source language and target language in the way of convergence. And respect and conform to norms of textual cohesion target language.Based on the above theory, this thesis focused on the application of cohesion and coherence in English news translation. And it is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is the introduction part; this part introduces the research background, purpose and meaning as well as structure of this thesis. The second chapter introduces the main theory of cohesion and coherence as well as its development at home and abroad, at the same time, there is the analysis of the situation and lack of research on the English news.As the news has great influence in people’s daily life and this thesis is E-C news translation, therefore, the third chapter analyzes the definition and classification of news and then analyzes the linguistic features of English news including lexical features, syntactic features and rhetorical features. Because English news has their own distinctive features and stylistic features, its translation must reflect the characteristics of the original language.The fourth chapter starts analyzing the E-C news translation from the theory of cohesion and coherence theory by a large number of examples. It describes the application as well as the important role of cohesion and coherence theory in English news translation they play. Among them, the applications of the devices are:reference, replace, ellipsis, lexical cohesion, and other methods of explanation.The fifth chapter is a summary of this thesis. In this part, the theoretical value in use of cohesion and coherence in English News Translation is summarized, raising the prospect for further research. |
