English grammar learning is an important component in the process ofEnglish language learning. The solid foundation of English grammar will agood base for the mastery of language, and it will influence other ability ofEnglish learning, such as listening, reading and writing. However, thephenomenon that waste time without much effect in the process of grammarlearning is very common. Grammar remains a difficult problem in the processof English learning. According to the materials, we can find language transferphenomenon is one of the many factors that influence English learning, and itcan not be overlooked.Language transfer has always been a central issue for at least a century inapplied linguistics and second language acquisition. Language transfer, in thisspecific context, is the role of Mongolian plays in learning English as aforeign language. Many scholars have often held the view that mother tongueplays a negative role in learner’s English learning. Therefore, they stronglyurge to avoid the interference of mother tongue in English learning. Theauthor of this thesis believes that there exist great deals of similaritiesbetween Mongolian and English in many perspectives of vocabulary andgrammar. So the aim of this paper is to study the influence of Mongolianadjective verbs’ positive transfer on Mongolian students’ English nonfiniteverbs learning, and exploring how it can provoke their English nonfinite verbslearning ability and improve quality of English grammar teaching.Based on the previous research in language transfer, second languageacquisition and English nonfinite verbs and Mongolian adjective verbsresearch, the author tries to give a detailed and specific explanation about thesimilarities and differences between Mongolian adjective verbs and Englishnonfinite verbs. The experiment starts at September2013, and selects60 Mongolian students enrolled2012in Inner Mongolia Normal University. Thelanguage translating test shows that Mongolian adjective verbs is greatlyrelated to English nonfinite verbs in target language. The results fromtranslation test and interview indicate that it is necessary to exploit Mongolianadjective verbs’ positive transfer in English nonfinite verbs learning andteaching.This paper is composed of six chapters. Chapter one is introduction ofresearch background, the purpose and significance and the structure of thestudy. Chapter two is literature review of grammar acquisitions, languagetransfer, Mongolian adjective verbs and English nonfinite verbs research athome and abroad. Chapter three is contrastive analysis of Mongolianadjective verbs and English nonfinite verbs. Chapter four is researchmethodology, includes research subject, instrument and data collectionprocedures. Chapter five is research findings and presents results of dataanalysis. Chapter six is conclusion, includes major findings, implications onlanguage teaching, limitations of the study and some recommendations forfuture research.
