An Instructional Design Of Components-based Teaching Method For Teaching Chinese Characters To Foreigners

For a long time, the lack of attention paid to Chinese characters teaching results in the poor situation that the teaching of Chinese characters became the weak point of Chinese promotion. Because of the difficulties in learning Chinese characters, foreign learners cannot push their Chinese to a higher level.For the sake of an improvement in Chinese characters teaching and providing a new idea for teachers, this paper suggests teaching Chinese characters by components-based teaching method.This paper discusses the practicability of components-based teaching method in three aspects:the definition and quantity of Chinese character components; the content of Chinese-character-components teaching including component itself and the function of components in forming characters; the advantages of components-based teaching method including three aspects:the appellative and meaning of components; character-building ability of the Level A characters; components are easily to be remembered in accordance with cognitive pattern.Then, this paper formulates the principle of components-based teaching method, which includes focusing on Chinese-character-components teaching but also strokes teaching; giving priority to Chinese-character-components that can form more characters than others; teaching characters with combinations of pronunciations, patterns and meanings; and also systemic analysis on characters.According to the demonstration above, this paper designs a teaching scheme of lesson3in textbook EXPERIENCING CHINESE CHARACTERS (advanced version) in order to provide a case for TCSL teachers.
