MTI students would inevitably use note-taking during the learning of interpreting or the practice of consecutive interpreting. Note-taking plays an extremely important role in the process of consecutive interpreting. Based on daily interpreting practice in different stages, this thesis tries to analyze the shortcomings in former practice and summarizes the common mistakes in the daily simulation practice. Based on the effort model and other theories mentioned in the text book A Foundation Coursebook of Interpreting and A Coursebook of Consecutive Interpreting, this thesis is proposes several approaches to improve the efficiency of note-taking. After learning for a period of time, with several interpreting practice, compared with the former problems, the author has greatly improved. Using personal experience as an example, the author hopes that this could offer some reference to note-taking learning and interpreting practice of MTI students.This thesis is divided into five parts:Chapter one gives brief introduction of the structure of the thesis; Chapter two gives introduction to the Effort Model which is the main theory in this thesis; Chapter three shows the description of the methods of the collecting materials used in this thesis including notes and record; Chapter four analyzes the notes and records collected and then shows the three basic types of errors in note-taking from the author’s own interpreting practice. And these errors have been overcome corrected by comparing with the four later interpretations. Chapter five draws the conclusion of the thesis and shows the suggestions on how to avoid errors in note-taking based on the author’s own experience.The materials including notes and records used in this thesis are collected from interpreting practice in interpreting classes. With the lack of theoretical research as well as interpreting experience, the number of the cases used in this thesis is very small. The quality of the thesis remains to be improved.
