An Analysis Of The Notes In The Practice Of Alternative Interpreting Between English And Chinese

Note-taking plays an indispensable role in consecutive interpreting because of its function to help the interpreter to memorize the original text. The main functions of note-taking are to help the interpreter recall the original speech and better understand the logic of the speech in order to have a better performance. The paper is a practical report, in which the interpreter analyzes the problems in the note-taking exercise. The note-taking principles put forward by Lin Chaolun is the standards to present the problems in the exercise, such as, more word less symbol, more word less meaning, more horizontal less vertical. The main reasons behind those phenomena include no reasonable note-taking system, writing down words without understanding and taking notes without enough logic. To solve those problems, it is necessary to establish a certain note-taking system and to train to get the subject of the original language as well as to train to understand the logic of the original language. Through studying the problems in note taking, interpreters could understand its importance, thus make the most of note taking in consecutive interpreting. Meanwhile, interpreters could also see note taking in perspective, thus find a proper way to take note.
