With the development of the time and the progress of the society, eco-translatology, as anew translation theory, has gained an increasing number of translators’ concerns andrecognitions. Eco-translatology develops from the original translation theory. It is based onthe eastern philosophical concept and uses the eastern ecological wisdom. The theory adoptsDarwin’s theory “natural selection, survival of the fittest” and combines the ecology withtranslation, adapting to the development requirement of the time. The theory provides a new, harmonious and multidimensional view and a brand new research paradigm for guidingtranslation. It also provides a new theory guidance for translation. Therefore, the thesis mainlyintroduces the background and the basic connotation of the eco-thanslatology and in the viewof eco-transalatology. The thesis takes the Chinese-English translation of MoYan’s “On theRoad to Sell Cotton” as the example, analysing the main translation strategies used in theprocess of Chinese-English translation and with the aim of providing some references fortranslation practice. On the basis of a further understanding of the fundermental concept ofthe eco-traslatology, the thesis aims to strengthen and improve the applicable ability oftranslation skills and improve translation ability in a comprehensive way by usingcorresponding translation strategies. The development of the eco-translatology adapts to the requirement of the social progressand provides a brand new view of theory and research for translation and practice. Ineco-traslatology, the new changes have occurred in the application of the translation strategies, especially in the translation of the literature texts. It offers a whole new theoretical perspectivefor the translation of literature texts in the dimension of language, culture and communication, providing a powerfully theoretical support for the tanslation practice of literature texts. It hasgreat significance for understanding the literary connotations, writing styles and literarycharacteristics. The development of eco-translatology not only provides the theoreticalsupport for the translation process, but also enriches the connotation and epitaxial of theliterature texts, which makes the translation of the literature texts adapt and adjust to thelanguage feature of the target language and guarantees the literary characteristics. In a word, the perspective of eco-translatology offers a whole new theoritical guidance for theChinese-English translation of the Chinese literary texts. In the process of translation, the use of translation strategies is particularly crucial.Different translation strategies, which are used in different contexts and texts, provideguidances for translation of different texts. Much description of the environment exists in “Onthe Road to Sell Cotton”, an early typical work of MoYan—the famous Chinese writer. Therefore, MoYan chooses the specific cultural environment and language environment whendescribing the figures. However, in the process of Chinese-English translation of “On theRoad to Sell Cotton”, how to deal with the relationship between the environment and thefigures and how to make the different figures prominent in different environment are the mostimportant problems and the core of the thesis. The view of eco-translatology used in theChinese-English translation conforms to the features of the text and also accords with thetheoretical requirement and the practice requirement of the eco-translatology in environmentalfoil and figures description. As the literature text of the product of the time, it is necessary tomake the English version correspond with the features of time and the requirement of thesocial progress. The eco-translatology provides the sufficient theoretical guidance for the aimmentioned.Though eco-translatology is a new theoretical view, it has developed rapidly and gainedconstant development and improvement after it is put forward. The specialists and scholarsboth at home and abroad are focusing more on it and enhancing its application. By using ofthe view of eco-translatology to do the research on the Chinese-English translation strategiesof the literature text corresponds to the tendency, the thesis tries to innovate in translationtheory and practice, consisting of five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, mainlyintroducing MoYan and his main works, and elaborating the significance of Chinese–Englishtranslation in eco-translatology. The second chapter is literature review, mainly discussing therelevant theoretical views of eco-translation, introducing circumstance of the English versionof MoYan’s works, and making the importance of different strategies in literature translationprominent. The third chapter is the theoretical framework of the eco-translatology, explainingits background, main connotation and fundermental theory. The forth chapter is the mainbody of the thesis. It combines the translation of “On the Road to Sell Cotton”, analyses the use of translation strategies in the view of eco-translatology and mainly discuss is the use ofdomestication and foreignization and transformation of hypotaxis and conjunction in thedimension of language, culture and communication. It also expounds the combinationbetween the new view provided by eco-translatology and different strategies. The explanationcombines the theory with the practice, namely, the way of combination of discourse theorywith text analyses. The fifth chapter is the conclusion and the prospect. It summarizes the fourchapters ahead and sums up the influence of the eco-translatology in transaltion strategies andtext translation, expliciting the significance of the eco-translatology for improving translationstrategies. It is also illustrated the parts that need to be improved. As the new view oftranslation, eco-translatplogy has much to be improved, and the combination between itstheory and application still needs to be improved in a large extent. The last chapter illustratesthis point and confirms the prospect of eco-translatology and interprets the parts that need tobe improved in its development. All kinds of translation strategies have gained new development and application ineco-translatology, which will promote the translation of different texts. The eco-translatologywill help to enhance the applicable ability of different strategies, improve translation skills, understand different text types and impose an important theoretical value and practicalguidance on translation.
