The Art Born Of Wood

This thesis had a discussion on the visual elements of wood microstructure, the composition techniques of wood aesthetics patterns and the interior decoration articles design with it, and specific carried out the design and practice of wood aesthetics tea sets, and the primary results are as follows.(1)The visual elements of wood microstructure can be divided into four elements:①lines, such as vessel, tracheid, wood rays and wood fiber;②shape, such as roundness, fusiform and drum-shape;③inherent patterns, such as the Fish-pattern, the carving grain perforation and the butterfly pattern formed by the fusiform ray and the parenchyma storied on tangential section of Erythrina arborescens;④texture, such as the rough gelatinous fiber.(2)The composition techniques of wood aesthetics patterns can be divided into two types:①hand-drawn, that is adopting the design approaches of outline, exaggeration and geometrization;②design by computers, that is adopting the design approaches of deconstruction and recombine, highlighting the special structure, and add and idealized. The thesis designed wood aesthetics patterns in the conduction of those techniques, and got some ideal results.(3)The thesis discussed the application of wood aesthetics in interior decoration articles from four aspects:①wood aesthetics patterns could be used to decorate domestic ceramics with the techniques of applique, sculpture and hand-drawing.②wood aesthetics patterns could be used to decorate interior fabric with the forms of two sides continual and four consecutive,③wood aesthetics patterns could be applied in the furniture modeling design or furniture decorative design on the whole or partial, aiming to highlight to the wood aesthetics patterns.④as the wall design, wood aesthetics patterns could be applied in the wallpaper and wall hanging. Two hangings designed in the thesis were used to decorate the wall, which brought the space natural flavor and contemporary.(4) following the three-stage process, which were analysis, design and practice, the design and manufacture of ceramic tea sets were carried out. Five sets were designed in total in the thesis, and four of them were produced adopting the techniques of applique under the glaze,carving patterns on the glaze, carving patterns on the unglazed ware and hand-drawing with the glaze.As a new subject, wood aesthetics is a large advancement of the traditional xylology, and also is a link between xylology and art designs, which has good research values and prospects of development and application. Referencing to the theories and skills of the beauty of natural form of the natural aesthetics, combining the wood aesthetics with Chinese traditional patterns, those aspects are worthy of further exploration, in order to promote the development of wood aesthetics.
