In Early20th century, with the help of the North American Association and theNational Association, YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association) was established inmany cities and schools in Shandong. The YMCA in Shandong upheld social gospeltheory, actively carrying out "moral, intellectual, physical, and social" sterile work,and actively carried out social services. After the establishment of the YMCA inShandong, it committed to the moral, intellectual, physical, and labor education, aswell as the social development undertakings.YMCA opened in Shandong throughschools, sports organizations and venues to establish a way to promote thedevelopment of modern education and sports in Shandong. They also carried outcharity cause, and public health, These social services by the YMCA was welcomedby the local young people in Shandong.The Anti-Christian Movement (1922-1927) had a great impact on the YMCA, butalso accelerated the pace of localization of the YMCA, which had focused oneducation and civic education and civilian career. YMCA also received a positiveresponse throughout Shandong, involving the localization of the efforts of the YMCA.In particular, the first implementation of Civilian Education Movement was carriedout by Yantai YMCA Besides this, the civic education activities by Shandong YMCAwere also at the forefront of the rest of China YMCA. The exploration ofLocalization by Shandong YMCA, was not only in response to the call of the NationalAssociation, but also the needs of their environment.In the localization process, the YMCA gradually weakened the color of religion,but paid more attention to China’s practical needs, and also made contribution toChinese Anti-Japanese war. YMCA as a peripheral tissue of Christianity it spread inthe form of social gospel preaching sermons in China, and also spread the Christianculture, Nevertheless its relationship with the Christian Church is not very close, andwas in the position of marginalization in Christianity. The most of people’s memoryon YMCA is its social service work. The activities of YMCA in Shandong objectively played a promoting role for the modernization of Shandong, especially in educationand sports, which not only improved people’s physical quality in Shandong Province,but also played a role in the Enlightenment.
