Research On The Solutions To The Semantic Paradoxes

This thesis takes the solutions to the semantic paradoxes as the research object,systematically presents and analyzes the previous typical cases to approaches toparadox solutions by the way of establishing the criterion to paradox solutions.The main body of the thesis consists of an introduction, four chapters and aconclusion. The introduction introduces the purposes and significance to research intothe semantic paradoxes, then presents the literature review at home and abroad, aswell as the mainstream viewpoints.Chapter One begins an overview of the basic questions of semantic paradoxes,including the definition and types of paradox, the definition and types of the semanticparadoxes as well.Chapter Two focuses on the criterion for paradox solutions, and sums up thebasic criterion which a reasonable solution to paradox should be equipped with on thebasis of the scholars’ researches on the approaches to paradox solutions in the past,foreshadowing the appraisal of the previous solutions in the next part.Chapter Three presents these previous typical cases of approaches to paradoxsolutions.It mainly analyses each approach from the perspectives of theunderstandings to the roots of semantic paradoxes, and the specific approaches tothese solutions.Chapter Four is the main part of this thesis, which makes a systematical appraisalto these approaches manifested in the prior chapters. It states the rationalities anddeficiencies of these previous approaches, which offers the significant references toimprove and explore the approaches to semantic paradoxes.
