The Narrative Mode Research Of The New Literary Detective Novels(1914-1949)

Detective novel is one of the most popular genre of popular literature.Itconstructs the text with the narrative clues of crime and investigation of theprocess.The text comprises of several parts:intricate crime story,investigation andanalysis of reasoning,uncover the truth of the story.To explore up,the embryonic formof the detective novel borns in Spring and Autumn period.There are many prisonstories in the works like Shangshu and Hanfeizi. After that,from the mystery novels ofthe Weijin southern and northern dynasties,the vernacular novels of Songdynasty,until the detective-style fiction of late Ming and early Qing dynasty.This kindof pattern had a specific pattern from then on.The introduction of foreign detectivenovels in the early20th century, changed the creative mode. Chinese detective novelin new literature period was born with the influence on the development of theenvironment and culture.This thesis aims to research Chinese detective novel text in new literatureperiod.Selected detective literature from the period of Cheng xiaoqing’s firstdetective novel “the figure of the light”,which published in1914,to1949.Study thenew literary detective novel narrative art with narrative research methods and sometheories of modernity. This thesis will research Chinese detective novels in newliterature period from four aspects: They are narrative contents, narrative structure,narrative time and narrative perspective. The thesis is divided into five chapters:In the introduction part, introduce emergence and development of the newliterary detective novel,and the narrative research status quo of detective novel. Thefirst chapter, analyze the subjects and themes of the new literary detective novel byexploring on the basis of the modern detective novel context of age.This part aims toreflect the changes in the new literary detective novel’s narrative mode from thenarrative content innovation. The second chapter,discuss new literature’s suspensenarrative structure model and analysis the way of building suspense of the works,Andfeatures of its openness and complicacy. The third chapter, analysis narrative time’sreconstruction of the new literary detective novel and early detective novel’s effect onnovels during May4th period. The fourth chapter, discusses multiple narrative perspectives of the new literary detective novel. Different from traditional omniscientnarrative perspective, the new literary detective novel uses the the first-person limitedperspective and third person inner-focusing,realizing the modern transformation ofnarrative perspective. With civilians narrative position, make the detective novelroaming the citizen culture.The fifth chapter,reflect the modernity of the narrativetechniques in the new literary detective novel. The new literary detective novel hasthe feature of modernity. The features are the modernity of the narrative techniques,narrative content’s openness, scientific, democratic, etc.But at the same time,there islimitation of modernity such as the lack of erban image.However,as a new literaturetype, the new literary detective novel enrich the history of literature,and its uniquesocial value and aesthetic value is getting more and more attention of the academia.
