With the rapid development of archaeological technology, great achievementshave gained in researching The Lower Layer of Xiajiadian Culture. It is mainlydistributed The Lower Layer of Xiajiadian Culture in the north of Yanshan Mountianthat is the western Liao He River area.In recent years, researches on settlementpattern caused widespread concern in the academic community. Settlement patternincludes not only the layout and space pattern of a single settlement, but alsosettlement pattern’s level differentiation, structure of ethnic groups, socialorganization and initiation of civilization, etc. Through integrated survey of Individualand community characteristic and adequately utilizing of Archaeological materials,this article have an analysis on the attribute of Independent settlement, groupsettlement and site in settlement in Xiajiadian Culture.Chapter One focuses on the site features of single settlement, origin andsettlement cluster in lower layer of Xiajiadian Culture based on the researches of theKing of Medicine Temple and Two well sites. Two well sites is the best-preservedsettlement pattern of the lower layer of Xiajiadian Culture in the area of the upperXiliaohe (Inner Mongolia) because of its deep stratigraphic accumulation andcomplete preservation. Through detailed study of the site, we can understand themorphological changes of the settlement.Chapter Two is devoted largely to a description of the features of the groupsettlement site in the lower layer of Xiajiadian Culture which centers on SanzuodianSite. Sanzuodian Site which consists of a big city and small town is a typical Stonecastle settlement site in the lower layer of Xiajiadian Culture. Through the study of itsfunction, we can gain insight into the settlements layout and origin of the lowerlayer of Xiajiadian Culture.Chapter Three deals with centralitySettlement site’s feature, origin andSettlement cluster morphology based on the researches of Dadianzi site and cemetery.Dadianzi site and cemetery which has been excavated in1970s belongs to centralitySettlement site in the lower layer of Xiajiadian Culture area. Through analyzing it, itwill have great academic significance and meaning on the formation of Fangcivilization and Chinese nation’s multiethnic nature.Chapter four mainly analyses the layout of settlement pattern of the lower layerof Xiajiadian Culture and the features,development routes and natures of thesesettlements.The emergence and development of the city sites in various settlementcluster patterns brought about the reorganizing and reassembling of the prehistorickinship societies,and it is also the mainstream of the evolutions of the late prehistoric societies.At last, along with the developing of some city sites into territorialsocieties, the earliest civilized archaic states appeared.
