Proverbs are the cream of a language, and also the crystallization of a nation. Beinghanded down till now, Chinese proverbs have long historical and cultural connotation. Theyagglomerate the Chinese farming culture and traditional ethical ideas of Confucianism、Buddhism and Taoism. On the other hand, Chinese proverbs are also deeply influenced bythe Chinese cultural history.The study of the article is focusing on two aspects which are ontological study of theChinese proverbs and the Chinese teaching as a foreign language. The paper discusses theproperties, functions, forms and the cultural background of the Chinese proverbs in theontological aspect, and found that the Chinese proverbs as the crystallization of the wisdomof the nation, occupy an important post in the Chinese language, and play an veryimportant role in inheriting and promoting the Chinese culture. In the aspect of the Chineseteaching of a foreign language, this article analyzed the situation that appear in the outlineand the teaching materials. We found that, the Chinese proverbs have not caused enoughattention in the Chinese teaching period, and different kinds of problems exist in thestudying period of the students. Then this article has put forward some referablesuggestions on the teaching of the Chinese proverbs.
