Time is the important theme of Bai Xianyong’s short novels. Time, as a main line, nearly connects all his novel’s creations,which reveals historical vicissitudes and variable fate.The life consciousness embody Bai Xianyong’s sensitivity to time, and the deep feeling to time becomes the ways of revealing the life significance and showing life consciousness.Secondly, his novels express Family-Country collective consciousness.The sense of life drifting in exotic places and strong homesickness makes Bai Xianyong think over the circumstances of the homeland, and they deepen his awareness of Chinese traditional culture, thus his creative themes focuson homeland and stick to spirit home. On the basis of "culture with country", he vividly describes tragic fate and the pain of the exile group to TaiWan who lost their cultural roots in the specific historical period, and outlines the bitter survival state of overseas Chinese who suffer from their unconvinced identity and culture in strange land.
