Michael Borremans was born in Belgium in1963. His command of techniqueand a unique creative perspective have put him as one of the mostwell-known contemporary artists in the world. His works vibrate withviewers by artfully combining traditional realism expression and moderndigital media techniques. The multi-dimensional presentation serves onepurpose–to express a deep sense of absurdity, anxiety, loneness andthe mysterious. This paper aims to uncover the reality behind his piecesby discussing the relationship between time and space, people and stilllife, theme expression and various modern techniques. Behind his gloomyportrait of the world reveals a sense of helplessness and sarcasm to theworld.The thesis is divided into3chapters. The first chapter describesunspecific human subjects and still life. The second chapter expands onthe artist’s ambitions and specific themes, and the last chapterinterprets the artist’s absurdities in seeking to elaborate on therelationship between Borremans’ paintings and its images.
