Henan is a major traditional Chinese opera province and the number of the local operas is numerous.But most of them spread in the folk, and Heyang Flower Drum Opera is one of the rare opera and has agreat academic value. Heyang Flower Drum Opera also can be called “hum opera” or “hum song opera”. Itis famous for its vocal filled with “hum” sounds. Heyang Flower Drum Opera is very popular with thelocals based on its plain story, unique style, and flexible vocal and rich flavor of life. In2006, HeyangFlower Drum Opera is listed as one of the Henan provincial intangible cultural heritage. This thesis takesHeyang Flower Drum Opera as the research object and tries to analyze the origin and evolution of HeyangFlower Drum Opera, collect the original Qupai, the list of operas and research the transplantation andrecomposing in nowadays creative process. This thesis consists of four parts.The first part is the introduction which summarizes origin and development of the Heyang FlowerDrum Opera and discusses its existing value.The second part focuses on the artistic characteristics of Heyang Flower Drum Opera, then makes afurther analysis of its classification, vocal characteristics, music vocabulary, performance forms and thefeatures of accompaniment music, etc.The third part mainly discusses the inheritance and innovation situation of Heyang Flower DrumOpera, including its music content, music creation, and vocal performance and so on.The last part puts forward some ideas and suggestions for the development of Heyang Flower DrumOpera from the perspective of the intangible cultural heritage protection and the traditional opera artprotection.
