With a history of2700years, Bronze drum is the historical andcultural treasure created by ancient China southern ethnic groups. Bronzedrum custom is inheriting by certain ethnic groups in remote places ofRed River basin and southeastern Asia, where bronze drums are still used.In the progress of the integration of world economy and culturalglobalization, certain systems become the support of the existing ethnicculture while the interference between traditional culture and modernculture in regions has become much fiercer. Taking bronze drum as thevehicle, bronze drum culture is attached to the human beings and isinherited by the way of voice, technique and dance, etc. From the view ofanthropology, this paper discusses the construction of bronze drumcultural meaning and value system by researching its social life of“things”. The changes of bronze drum social place and cultural meaningare shown in the contract between ancient and modern bronze drumcasting, circulation, consumption and application. The paper looks onhow “things” are interact with ecological environment, politicalbackground, social needs and folk behavior basing on the research on thesocial life of bronze drum, then tries to understand the developmentprocess of the current traditional folk culture, and provides references forthe anthropology research on “things” research theory. The paper is also atrial of “social life of things” research.
