Research In Living Condition Of Bronze Drum Culture

As a gem created and treasured by southern nationalities in our country, bronze drum has been evolved through generation after generation into a peculiar and glorious culture, which is manifested in various living bronze drums in southern China and ASEAN countries.The present dissertation probes into the living conditions of bronze drum culture in Guangxi Autonomous Region through literature and field work in the cities of Nanning, Yulin, Baise Liuzhou, and Beihai in the region. The production techniques with employment of sand mould and investment casting are introduced. Analysis about the dilemma of the living conditions of bronze drum culture will be covered. A definition about the living condition of bronze drum culture is included, on which basis the rationale for the survival of bronze culture in Guangxi will be discussed.Three reasons are presented to testify the survival of bronze drum culture in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, namely, the popularity it enjoys among the populace in the region, the premium put on it by local government and villages, the prominence it claims in the history and culture in the region.The preservation of bronze drum culture is discussed with emphasis on the concept of conservation of the original pieces and the strategy of dynamic conservation with the involvement of the populace.
