A Report On The Translation Of Lean In(Chapter Three-Chapter Five)

Lean In is a non-fiction by the American writer Sheryl Sandberg, in which she introducesthe gender unfairness in the workplace by telling her own work experience, gives somesuggestions to the women in the workplace and calls on people to reduce the unfairness. First,the author of this thesis introduces the theory of Mr. Fu Lei—the Unification of Form andSpirit, which emphasizes the spirit, but not ignores the form. In translation, in order to makeits meaning and spirit equal to the original works, we should also use translation tacticsincluding amplification, syntactic linearity, the adjustment of the sentence structure and liberaltranslation besides the theory guidance. Second, the author analyses the use of sometranslation tactics in the original and the translation text from the perspective of words andsentences. In this novel, colloquial words are typically used in word level and ellipticalsentences and brcakets are frequently used in sentence structures. The author illustrates howto do with the word choice and sentence expression in the translation process. Thirdly, theauthor gives some examples on translation difficulties. Finally, the author has learned that, inorder to do the translation well, one must have solid English and Chinese knowledge as wellas encyclopedic knowledge.
