The report is on translating the extracts from the History Code in NationalTreasures：Qing Dynasty and Palace Museums of the Mainland and Taiwan edited byCCTV International Chinese Channel. The book keeps a record of the rich historicaland cultural heritage in Qing Dynasty of China. It explores and introduces theoutstanding traditional culture of Chinese nation through a way of telling the legendstories of these national treasures. It has twelve chapters with2.1million words. Thetranslator extracts two chapters from it to translate, namely Grand Royal Architecturesand National Treasures in the Palace Museum of the Mainland and Taiwan. The reportcontains five parts. The first part is about the background of the translation project. Itmainly introduces the purpose and significance of choosing the part of the book astranslating material, namely to make more readers know about Chinese traditionalculture and to carry forward Chinese outstanding history civilization. What’s more, itpresents the main structure of the report. The second part gives an introduction to thesource text, including its version, main contents and features. Because the source textis an informational practical style, the target text should be based on the translatingtheories and tactics of the style. The third part describes the translating processincluding preparations and follow-ups, presenting the work a translator needs to do inprocess. The fourth part is about the control over the quality of the target text,including translation difficulties, theories and tactics used to deal with the difficulties.Based on Skopos Theory, Dissimilation Theory and Alienation Theory, the translatorcarries on the translation, in most cases, in way of Literal Translation and FreeTranslation. The last part is a summary of the translation project, covering the majorproblems confronted in the process of translating, enlightenments obtained from thetranslation practice and inspirations for the future work and study.
