A Report On C-E Translation Of Historical Sites And Cultural Relics In Jining

With the development of globalization, international communication between China and other countries is becoming increasingly frequent and the publicity translation becomes more and more important. Translation of historical sites and cultural relics, as a type of publicity translation, is an important means of spreading Chinese civilization. Hence, the publicity translation of high quality plays an important role in transmitting Chinese culture and improving national cultural soft power.Based on previous researches, the author intends to analyze problems during C-E translation of Historical Sites and Cultural Relics in Jining from the perspective of German Functionalist Theory. This report aims to find effective translation strategies and techniques for improving the translation quality of publicity materials by correlating text typology and the expected purposes of the target text.This report is composed of six parts. At the beginning, there is an introduction to the background and significance of the report and the features of publicity materials. Chapter one is the description of the translation project, including the background information, the content and the target reader. Chapter two is the whole translation process and the difficulties encountered by the author during translation. Chapter three is a brief summary of Functionalist approaches, including text typology and Skopos theory. Chapter four is the case study. According to Functionalist theory, the C-E translation of Historical Sites and Cultural Relics in Jining is analyzed and relevant translation strategies in the author’s translation practice are summarized with abundant examples. The last part is the conclusion of this report. German functionalist approaches have offered a guiding line for C-E translation of historical sites and cultural relics.
