Objective:To investigate the prevalence of suicidal ideation among inpatients at one general hospital, to explore risk factors and protective factors of suicidal ideation with somatic disease patients, and to form a concise and useful warning scale of suicidal ideation of inpatients with somatic disease.Method:15years of age or older inpatients able and agree to fill out questionnaires were sampled. Self-rating Depression Scale, Self-rating Anxiety Scale and self-designed questionnaires which is including general information, suicide risk factors and somatic disease, et al. were undertook. Using multivariate logistic regression to analysis risk factors of suicidal ideation and using content analysis method to analyze protective factors. According to the research results, we developed the early warning tool and analyzed its reliability and validity test and ROC curve analysis.Results:1.103(7.90%) of the1303inpatients reported suicidal ideation,27reported suicidal plan and25reported suicidal behavior. Incidences of suicidal ideation in various department of hospital were not statistically significantly difference (χ2=38.86, P=0.129).2. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that the risk factors about suicidal ideation of inpatients with somatic disease included not want to cure disease, depression, social pressure caused by disease and insomnia.3.The content analysis method showed that its protective factors included survival and coping belief, family responsibility and concerned about their children.4.18items of warning scale was reserved. The Cronbach’s Alpha reliability was0.84and its split-half reliability was0.60. Criterion-related validity studies showed that the scores of the18items were positive correlated with Self-rating Depression Scale and Self-rating Anxiety Scale (rSDS=0.50,rSAS=0.54, P<0.01). This scale also has good structure validity.5. The ROC curve concluded that the area under curve was0.83, the sensitivity was68.40%and the specificity was79.20%. Positive and negative predictive values were21.22%and96.83% respectively.Conclusion:1. Incidence of suicidal ideation among inpatients of somatic disease is higher than normal population.2. The risk factors about suicidal ideation of inpatients with somatic disease included not want to cure disease, depression, social pressure caused by disease and insomnia. Its protective factors included survival and coping belef, family responsibility and concerned about their children.3. The reliability and validity of the warning scale entirely accorded with psychometric demands. It also has good sensitivity, specificity and negative predictive value, so it is suitable for clinical promotion.
