| The paper is a translation project report about petroleum technological English, two parts included. The first part is an English-Chinese translation practice, and the source text is a test report referring to the downstream issues of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) interchangeability. The test was carried out by AGA (American Gas Association) and AHRI (The Air-conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute) with a view to make a set of certification standards fitting its own country. The second part is a translation report according to the translation practice, which consists of four sections. The first section gives the preface foreword introduction of the translation project, including project background, theoretical guidance, objectives and significance. The second section presents the basic information of the source text, including background, stylistic features and linguistic features. The key part falls on the third section, which is about translation difficulties and methods. The author combines basic English with professional knowledge closely, using many kinds of translation methods to solve problems met in the process of translation, such as literal translation, hypotaxis to parataxis, conversion and supplement. The last section concludes lessons, enlightenments and unsolved problems in the translation.Through the translation practice, the author has gradually mastered stylistic features of petroleum technological English and its translation methods, which provides the author with a good foothold to be a qualified translator in the relevant field of petroleum technological English. The content of the source text is about the combustion performance of appliances tested by American authoritative organizations, referring to the issues of gas exchangeability. As far as China is concerned, it hasn’t formulated its classification standards yet. Thus, the paper, with certain significance of inspiration and guidance, can be used for reference in this aspect. |
