A Translation Project Report On Longitudinal Study

This report is based on the translation practice of a book named Longitudinal Study,aiming to describe and analyze the translation process, as well as sum up experience andlessons. It consists of four parts altogether: task description, translation process description,case study and conclusion.Longitudinal Study is one of the Sage University papers which concerns quantitativeapplications in the social sciences. It introduces longitudinal study from four aspects—thepurpose of longitudinal research, designs for longitudinal data collection, issues inlongitudinal research and longitudinal analysis. The writing style of this book is conciseand objective, accompanied with various examples and professional terms.Since it is an academic translation, literal translation is used as the main translationmethod, together with free translation method. After finishing the first translation version,I apply translation equivalence theories to analyze it and find out several problems. Inaddition, with two colleagues’ help, I come up with the modified version.Through the translation practice, I realize the feasibility of specialized translationorientation among students major in Master of Translation and Interpreting. I believe thatthe internal classifications of translation orientation can greatly optimize students’translation level in specialized orientation and thus enhancing their competitiveness. In themeanwhile, I also recognize that a professional translator should have a wealth ofknowledge concerning different major, a strong sense of time and self-examination.
