With the development of globalization and international communication,functions of translation are expanding step by step and research into translationtheories has also witnessed a new upsurge. Whereas, any translation activitiescannot conclude successfully without the roles involved in the activities. Only oneunderstands the roles’ corresponding functions and tasks can he perform satisfyingtasks with the positive effect. Meanwhile, the quality of translations will directlyimpose effects on clients’ trust on translators or interpreters, credibility ofpractitioners, and reactions from receivers. Thus, communication and quality aretwo essential factors in both translating and interpreting.Nowadays, many colleges and universities are offering specialized translationcourses, and some of them are even launching teaching in professional degree forMasters of Translation and Interpreting, aiming at cultivating professionals.However, substantial problems remain: ambiguous understanding of translation,lack of professional teachers, deficient teaching philosophy and approach, etc.Under such circumstance, the publication of Basic Concepts and Models inTranslator and Interpreter Training brought hope for the field. It containsprofessor Daniel Gile’s decades of teaching experience, infusing international aswell as professional ideas for the professional translation teaching.The material is the second chapter of the book above mentioned. In thischapter, the original author mainly introduces the definition of professionaltranslation, the configuration of translating activity, different aims of differentparties, profession loyalty, quality criteria and its assessment, etc. exerting positiveeffects on translators and interpreters’ comprehensive consideration of communicative context and providing helpful guide for teachers. After meticulousstudy on the material, the author of this project translated it with some translationstrategies, found the difficulties and managed to address them, finally summarizedinto this report, in the hope of attributing anything beneficial to the translation ofsimilar texts.
