The Wall Street Journal, as a professional financial journal enjoying reputation in the world, has exerted extensive and profound influence not only in the international financial and economic fields, but also in global politicians and scholars. This translation report on The Wall Street Journal into Chinese is not only beneficial to the improvement of individual English ability and professional financial knowledge, but also essential and significant for Chinese readers to broaden their vision of the world and economic field. Based on experience of translating English financial news, the author of the report analyzes the linguistic characteristics and features of style and lists some translation difficulties of several aspects the author encounters during the process, using relevant translation theories as guidance and criteria to break the barriers formed due to language contrast and economy professionalism. Finally she provides solutions respectively, with hope that the report can bring benefit for other learners and translators.In this report, chapter one tells us the background, purpose, significance of the translation project and main structure of the report. Chapter two is the project description, the author analyzes the source texts and demonstrates the preparation, data collection, methods adopted and proofreading during the translation project. Chapter three is mainly a literature review of researches from diverse perspectives on financial news and the author draws her conclusion that setting the Functional Equivalence as the theoretical guidance and idiomaticity as translation criteria she defines when she translates English financial news. In chapter four, the author lists some examples she encounters in the translation project and introduces corresponding translating strategies from lexical level, syntactic level and rhetorical level to solve problems. In the last chapter, the author demonstrates lessons, experience and limitations of the translation of English news, and more suggestion are welcome.
