The original text of this translation is excerpted from the book Dimensions of Thinking: AFrame of Curriculum and Instruction written by the famous educational researcher Robert J.Marzano. The book gives us specific details and methods of how to teach students thinking. Ihave translated the fourth chapter of the book into Chinese. In this chapter, the author of thebook discusses the thinking process, and divides this chapter into11main parts which areConcept Formation, Principle Formation, Kinds of Principles, Comprehension, Problem Solving, DecisionMaking, Research (Scientific Inquiry), Composition, Oral Discourse, Implication, Relationships BetweenProcesses and Skills. Differences between the Chinese language and the English language havecaused many obstacles during translation. The “text categorization” put forward by PeterNewmark is chosen for guiding my translation. According to the theory, the source text can beclassified as the “information function”. In the report, obstacles turning up during translationhave been analyzed and the relevant approaches are applied to deal with these obstacles.
