Chinese character considered as one of the most ancient charactersamong the world is universally difficult for Chinese-learning foreignersto quickly master in that it accumulates large amounts of characters andvocabularies and concentrates formation, pronunciation and meaningtotally in one character. The error analysis of the587high-frequencycharacters and vocabularies already covering50percent of those used inChinese daily life, however, would absolutely facilitate foreignChinese-learners to acquire Chinese better and faster. If quickly andaccurately master the587high-frequency characters and vocabularieswas a green way for Chinese-learning foreigners to get through Chineselanguage, it would be the best key to open the door by massively andcarefully making an analysis of the errors made by foreign learners. We define any Chinese characters written by foreigners inconsistentwith target words as Errors of Chinese characters; likewise, thevocabulary inconsistence as Errors of Chinese vocabulary. And both of them can be generalized into three error types, namely Errors, Omissionsand Redundance. Specifically, we can separate Chinese character errorsinto four types, such as coining words, misused words, omitted words andreductant words; while vocabulary errors separate into three typesmentioned earlier. Among all the three types, Errors accounts for thehighest87percentage which means foreign Chinese-learners would mostmisuse the other words instead of the target word and thus we need to paymore attention to such error situation. There are226categories of Chinese character errors in total andamong them coining words and misused words are the two most commonerrors which reach up to approximately93percent error rate. A Chinesecharacter error primarily concentrates on2components combination andstokes numbers between4and9.There are361categories of Chinese vocabulary errors in total andamong them Errors are the most popular errors reaching up toapproximately70percent error rate. It shows that, among thehigh-frequency words, notional words are extremely more than functionwords. Through farther analysis, we discover that Errors appeared inverbs, nouns and pronouns are much more than those in other notionalwords and Errors appeared in conjunction, adverb and proposition aremuch more than those in other function words.Analyzing all the Errors,226categories of Chinese character errors and361varieties of Chinese vocabulary errors, we classifyhigh-frequency Chinese characters into four problems concerning strokes, components, structures and the complete word and sort high-frequencyChinese vocabularies as six problems including separation, word withsame morphemes, synonym, mismatch, misdirection and others. The errorreasons for both Chinese character and vocabulary can attribute tocomplexity and specificity of Chinese, attitude and strategy of study, mother language transfer and the deficiency of teaching Chinese as aforeign language.
