The Study On Liu Yuxi’s Poetry From The Perspective Of Schema Theory

Classic Chinese Poetry is one of the most precious treasures in Chineseliterature and even in the field of world literature. The study of the ancient poetry hasgone through great changes from different angles: ranging from concentrating onrhythm aesthetic, rhetoric aesthetic, structure aesthetic to stressing on the aesthetic ofartistic conceptions, etc. However, nowadays scholars in China mainly emphasize onthe translation of images and artistic conceptions of Chinese ancient poetry, therhetoric methods and poem rhythm and so on. Seldom have the scholars tried from theperspective of Cognition to analyze the producing procedures of the artisticconceptions in the ancient Chinese poetry. Cognitive Linguistics is a branch ofLinguistics which is full of vigorousness. The author insists that applying Cognitivetheories into the analysis of ancient Chinese poetry is the localization of westerntheory into the study of Chinese literature. The paper stresses on the analysis of worksof Liu Yuxi, the famous poet in Tang Dynasty, with the help of Schema Theory.Schema is the total of knowledge and experience about the past stored in human brainsystematically, and can be used as references to recognize new matters. LiterarySchema means the schema in human brain about the images in the poetry, which is thedirect source of the artistic conception. In the main part of the thesis, operationpatterns of literary schema reinforcement, adjustment and refreshment are to be usedin the analysis of Liu Yuxi’s literature works. The application of the schema theoryinto the analysis of ancient Chinese poetry is an innovative attempt, which providesnew thoughts and methods to the grasp of artistic conception of the poetry, and hasimportant practical significance.
