The Interpretation Of Artistic Conceptions In Classic Chinese Poetry From The Perspective Of Schema Theory

Classic Chinese poetry is the treasure of Chinese culture, and it’s also a gem of literature both at home and abroad. One of the most important characteristics of classic Chinese poetry is that it uses verities of images to express the emotions of the poets, and these images are essential sources of the artistic conceptions of the poetry. At present, many scholars in China mainly focus on studying the translation of images and artistic conceptions, the common rhetorical techniques commonly used in the poems and the rhythm patterns of the classical works, etc. However, they seldom study the production process of the artistic conception from the perspective of human cognition. The thesis applies the schema theory of cognitive linguistics to analyze the cognitive process of understanding the artistic conception reflected by the classic Chinese poetry and aims at providing a new perspective of the interpretation of the artistic conception of classic Chinese poetry. According to schema theory, schema is the total of past knowledge and experience stored in people’s mind systematically, which provides a reference to recognize new things. The images in classic Chinese poetry also have their own schema, which we call literary schema, and it’s the direct source of the artistic conception of the poetry. The thesis mainly discusses the formation mechanism of literary schema in classic Chinese poetry and the dynamic operation patterns of literary schema, namely the reinforcement, adjustment and refreshment of literary schema and the author also uses a lot of examples to illustrate their strong explanatory power to the artistic conception of classic Chinese poetry. Applying schema theory to analyze the realization process of the artistic conception in classic Chinese poetry is a creative and effective attempt to localize the theory of western cognitive linguistics. Moreover, it will enrich the research method of classic Chinese poetry, and offer new perspective for the more accurate understanding of the artistic conception.
