In China, paper cutting has a long history, it is an important part of our nationalculture, and also an important part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity, withhigh artistic and appreciation. Traditional Chinese paper-cut art in China is presented asthe “mother folk” art, it is a kind of folk art which is formed and handed down duringthe folk life in the farming culture, in order to satisfy the spiritual needs. With thedevelopment of the times, people’s living standards are improved. At the present era, thetraditional paper-cut and even traditional folk art and traditional culture should becombined with times, in order to make a progressive regardless of the form or contentof the art. With the change of our life style, there is large differences lies betweenprevious generation and the young generation or even younger generation in the livingenvironment, behavior and the understanding of contemporary culture and traditionalculture, thus contemporary art can neither intact copy tradition, nor blindly deny thosenew things.We should find a breakthrough point in the process of cultural tradition. Such asYulin contemporary paper-cut artists Zhang Xiaomei‘s paper-cut work. In this paper, byanalysis the development and breakthroughs in form of the art, we tried to illustrate therelationship between the paper-cut art and relationship and aesthetic of today’s society, social life of young people today, and the contemporary art, in order to find out a betterway for the inheritance and development of the traditional paper-cut.
