The quality of the interpreting performance depends largely on the interpreter’slistening comprehension. If an interpreter’s listening comprehension process is hindered, then he or she can not successfully render the Source Language (SL) into the TargetLanguage (TL).This paper is based on the author’s consecutive interpreting practice on the6thInternational Expo on NGV Equipment. Through the analysis of the listeningcomprehension obstacles met during the consecutive interpreting from the perspectives ofAuditory Anxiety and Interpretation Anxiety, Shema Theory as well as Daniel Gile’sEfforts Model, the author has found out the underlying causes of her listeningcomprehension obstacles, which mainly include unfamiliar accents and fast speech rate ofthe speakers, environmental factors, psychological factors, knowledge factors and thepersonality factor of the interpreter. Based on the case analysis, the author has put forwardseveral solutions to listening comprehension obstacles during consecutive interpretation, which include listening comprehension training, interpretation database building, modelon-site interpretation training and personality training.
